NorthFacts is run by one person: James MacDonald, a reference librarian in Ottawa, Ontario. If you need to get in touch, here’s how to reach him and what to expect.
Email addresses
There are two addresses, each for a specific purpose:
- james@northernfocus.org — for questions about the site itself, feedback on a specific page, or suggestions for new topics. This is the address to use if you spot an error or want to discuss a correction.
- info@northernfocus.org — for general inquiries that don’t fit the above, such as media requests, partnership ideas, or anything else. James reads both inboxes, but using the right one helps him sort messages faster.
Response time
James checks email most days, but he runs NorthFacts on his own time, outside his day job at the Ottawa Public Library. You can expect a reply within 3–5 business days. If you’re writing about a factual error, he’ll try to respond sooner, especially if it’s urgent. He can’t guarantee same-day replies, but he does read every message.
What to include in your message
To help James get back to you quickly, include:
- The specific page or topic you’re referring to (if any).
- Your question or comment, as clearly as possible.
- Your name and a way to reach you (email is fine).
If you’re suggesting a new topic, check the existing sections first — People, Sports, Entertainment, History, Nature, Places, and Culture — to avoid duplicates. James adds new entries regularly, and he’s always open to ideas that fit the site’s scope.
Why this site exists
NorthFacts is a non-commercial reference site. James started it because he believes reliable information should be free and ad-free. He funds it through his own savings and a small Patreon, just to keep it independent and clean. There’s no newsroom, no editorial team — just one person who cares about accuracy.
