Corrections
NorthFacts is run by one person, James MacDonald, a reference librarian in Ottawa. I started this site because I believe reliable information should be free, ad-free, and easy to check. But I also know that no one is perfect, and that includes me. Mistakes happen. When they do, I fix them as quickly and transparently as I can. This page explains how that process works.
How errors are fixed
When an error is confirmed, I correct the page and add a note at the bottom of the entry. The note states what was wrong, what the correct information is, and the date of the change. I do not rewrite history silently. If a page has been corrected, you will see a short line like “Corrected on 12 March 2025: the original entry listed the wrong year.” That keeps the record honest for anyone who may have read the earlier version.
What is logged when a page changes
Every change to a page is logged internally. The log records the date, the section, the specific fact that changed, and a brief reason for the correction. I keep this log for my own reference and for anyone who asks about a specific entry. I do not publish the full log publicly, but I will share the details of any correction on request. You can email me at james@northernfocus.org and I will tell you exactly what changed and why.
How to report an error
If you spot a mistake, please let me know. The fastest way is to send an email to james@northernfocus.org with the page URL and the fact you believe is wrong. If you have a source, include it. I check every report against my own sources before making any change. I do not rely on memory or guesswork. I verify, then I correct. You can also use the general contact address at info@northernfocus.org, but the personal one reaches me directly.
An honest note
I have been a reference librarian for nine years, and I still make mistakes. The difference is that I treat every correction as part of the job. NorthFacts covers a wide range of topics, from people to history, sports, entertainment, nature, and places. With over 900 entries, the odds of an occasional slip are real. I do not hide that. What I promise is that when an error is found, it gets fixed, logged, and acknowledged. That is the standard I hold myself to, and it is the standard you should expect from this site.
