Northern Focus is committed to maintaining the highest editorial standards. We take complaints about our journalism seriously and have a clear process for you to raise concerns. All complaints should be sent to complaints@northernfocus.org. Our Standards & Fact-Checking Lead, Andrew Leblanc, oversees the initial review. If you are not satisfied, you may escalate to Editor-in-Chief Catherine Roy.
How do I submit a complaint?
Send an email to complaints@northernfocus.org with a detailed description of your concern, including the article URL, the specific issue, and what you believe is incorrect or unfair.
Please include your name and contact information so we can follow up, though anonymous submissions are accepted. We aim to acknowledge receipt within two business days and provide a substantive response within five business days. For complex issues, we will let you know if more time is needed.
What happens after I submit?
Andrew Leblanc, our Standards & Fact-Checking Lead, will acknowledge your complaint and begin an investigation.
He reviews the article, consults the relevant reporter and editor, and assesses whether a correction, clarification, or explanation is warranted. If the complaint involves a factual error, we follow our corrections policy. You will receive a written outcome explaining any action taken or why no change is needed.
What you can expect from us
You can expect a fair, impartial, and thorough review of your complaint, handled by a dedicated editorial team member.
We treat all complaints equally and without retaliation. Our goal is to resolve concerns transparently and promptly, upholding the trust our readers place in us. If we make a mistake, we will correct it openly and clearly.
Who handles escalated complaints?
If you are not satisfied with the initial response, you may escalate to Editor-in-Chief Catherine Roy at catherine.roy@northernfocus.org.
Catherine Roy personally reviews the complaint, the investigation’s findings, and the initial response. She makes a final decision on behalf of Northern Beacon Media Inc. Her decision is conclusive, and she will explain the reasoning in writing. For complaints about editorial standards or publication decisions, she is the ultimate point of contact.
