Northern Focus is committed to accuracy and transparency in every story we publish. When we make a mistake, we correct it promptly and clearly, so our readers can trust what they read. This policy explains how we handle errors, how you can report them, and what you can expect from us.
How do I report an error?
If you spot a factual error, omission, or misleading statement in any Northern Focus article, please email our dedicated corrections desk at corrections@northernfocus.org. You can also use our general contact form at Contact or call our editorial line at +1 416 555 0220.
When reporting an error, please include the article headline, the URL or publication date, the specific error you believe exists, and your source or evidence for the correction. Providing your contact information is optional but helps our team follow up if we need clarification. We treat every report seriously and will acknowledge receipt within one business day.
Who handles corrections at Northern Focus?
All corrections are managed by our Standards & Fact-Checking desk, led by Andrew Leblanc, Standards & Fact-Checking Lead (andrew.leblanc@northernfocus.org, +1 416 555 0225). Andrew oversees the verification process, ensures the correction is accurate, and coordinates with the original writer and editor.
For complex or sensitive errors, the matter is escalated to Editor-in-Chief Catherine Roy (catherine.roy@northernfocus.org), who makes the final decision on the correction and any broader editorial response. Our team reviews every reported error against our Fact-Checking Policy and Editorial Policy to ensure consistency.
What happens when a correction is made?
For material errors—those that change the meaning, accuracy, or fairness of an article—we update the article text and add a clear correction note at the top or bottom of the page. The note states what was originally published, what the corrected information is, and the date of the correction. Minor errors, such as typos or formatting issues, are fixed without a note unless they affect understanding.
We do not delete or rewrite articles without a correction note unless the error is so fundamental that the piece is no longer reliable, in which case we will publish a retraction or clarification. All corrections are logged internally and reviewed quarterly by the editorial team to identify patterns and improve our processes.
How quickly do we respond?
Our goal is to acknowledge your correction report within one business day and to resolve the issue within three business days. For urgent errors that could cause harm or mislead readers—such as incorrect election results, public safety information, or financial data—we aim to correct within hours. If we need more time to verify a complex claim, we will inform you of the expected timeline.
If you do not receive a response within two business days, please escalate directly to Catherine Roy at catherine.roy@northernfocus.org or call +1 416 555 0220. We take every report seriously and will not dismiss a valid concern.
What you can expect from us
Northern Focus stands behind every article we publish. Our journalists, including Managing Editor Marc Tremblay, Municipal Affairs Editor Hannah Walsh, and Provincial Affairs Editor Jessica Morin, are trained to verify facts before publication. Andrew Leblanc’s team double-checks sources, quotes, and data. When we get it wrong, we own it openly and fix it without spin.
We do not hide corrections or bury them in obscure sections. Every correction note is visible on the article page and linked from our Corrections Policy page. We also maintain a public log of significant corrections, available on request by emailing corrections@northernfocus.org. Our commitment is to continuous improvement, and we welcome your feedback as part of that process.
Questions or concerns?
If you have questions about this policy, a specific correction, or our editorial standards, please contact Andrew Leblanc at andrew.leblanc@northernfocus.org or Catherine Roy at catherine.roy@northernfocus.org. For formal complaints that are not about factual errors, please see our Complaints Procedure. You can also review our Editorial Policy and Fact-Checking Policy for more detail on how we work. We are here to serve our readers with trustworthy, clear journalism.
