Before you pack for Colombia, check the live forecast above for your destination. Colombia’s climate varies sharply by altitude and region, so what works in Bogotá will feel entirely wrong in Cartagena.

What is Colombia’s weather actually like?

Colombia sits near the equator, so temperatures stay fairly stable year-round—but altitude is everything. The lowland coasts and Amazon basin are hot and humid; the Andes highlands, including Bogotá and Medellín, enjoy mild, spring-like conditions. Rain patterns follow two wet seasons (April–May and October–November) in most of the country, though the Caribbean coast and the Pacific region have their own rhythms.

How does weather vary by city and season?

Weather in Colombia Bogotá hovers around 14–20°C year-round, with afternoon rains common. Colombia weather Medellín is similar but slightly warmer—often called the “City of Eternal Spring.” Colombia weather Cali is hotter, averaging 24–30°C with a more defined dry season. For colombia weather by month, expect the driest conditions from December to March and July to August, while colombia weather in summer (June–August) brings the second wet peak, especially in the interior.

Altitude rangeSea level to 5,700 m – drives huge temperature swings
Bogotá average temp14–20°C year-round
Wettest monthsApril–May and October–November (most of country)
Driest monthsDecember–March and July–August
Does Colombia have a rainy season?

Yes, but it varies. Most of the interior sees two rainy peaks (April–May and October–November). The Caribbean coast experiences a single wetter season from May to November, while the Pacific coast is wet nearly all year.

What should I pack for Colombia?

Layers are key. For high-altitude cities like Bogotá, bring a light jacket and rain gear. For the coast and Amazon, pack lightweight, breathable clothing, sun protection, and insect repellent. A rain shell works anywhere.

Is Colombia hot all year?

Not everywhere. Lowland regions are consistently hot (28–35°C), but highland cities like Bogotá and Medellín stay mild (14–24°C). The climate depends almost entirely on elevation, not season.
